Fair Information Practice Principles (FIPPS)

The University of Iowa has not yet adopted a technical standard for IT Privacy.  Any data protected by law, regulation or contract is subject to the requirements specified therein.  Where no specific legal requirement applies, the Fair Information Practice Principles (FIPPs) can be used as a guide to assuring privacy.  Some good sources of information about FIPPs include:

Privacy in Genomics

Because genomes are unique to each individual, great care must be taken with genomic information.  The NIH has put together a site on Privacy in Genomics that discusses legal and policy issues related to genomic information.
